Actually I don’t think there’s any traditional Hungarian sports, but we’re so good in some. Just think about the Olympic Games. Hungarian sportsmen and women are very successful here. We took part in the Summer Olympic Games for the first time in 1896. Once we nearly can arrange the Games, but because of the World War the right of the holding went to Antwerpen.

            We are the best in fencing, swimming, canoeing, and in the last few Games we were good at water-polo, wrestling, and in the already mentioned sports too. Our best Olympic Games were in 1952 in Helsinki, Hungarians won 16 gold, 10 silver and 16 bronze medals.

The most popular sport in the everyday life I think is football and basketball maybe. And the most popular Hungarian sport is football, it’s got the highest range of interests, many men keep tabs on the Hungarian Championship, but the Hungarian footballers aren’t so good.

The adult players didn’t won anything nowadays, but in the past we were good at football too, we played a World cup final in 1954, but we lose it against West Germany. But the younger players are so much better. Last week they won the U20 World Cup in Egypt; this is the best result of the Hungarian football in the last nearly 50 years.
